BSc Economics

B.Sc. Economics

3 Years Programme in Economics is designed to equip students with the knowledge, tools, methods and theories of Economics in a way such that they can apply them in practice. It will be of total 9 trimesters each containing 12 credits. The aim of the programme is to help students to critically and objectively analyse issues related to the economy, business, public policy and society. To develop analytical and quantitative abilities, problem-solving aptitude and skill through academics and to motivate and encourage students to get research oriented and develop skills to undertake research projects.

2. Selection Criteria

Admission to 3 year Program in Economics is based on a four-fold criteria- marks of 12th Standard (of any Board in the country or its equivalent abroad), score of a Common Entrance Test (UGPET) conducted by Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, a statement of purpose (SOP) explaining why the candidate wants to take admission into the course followed by an interview. The SOP has to be in the form of a three minute video which the candidate has to upload on MIT-WPU website. Based on these three criteria, a candidate’s eligibility for the course will be decided and admission will be on merit basis.

WHY B.Sc Economics

Economics is considered as ever green subject due to its high utility and huge demand in the job markets. BSc Economics course at MIT WPU use mathematics and statistical theory applied to economic theory and they are designed for students who want to take advantage of a background in mathematics to further their understanding of the world today.

The most important modules for a first-year economics student are Introductory Microeconomics, Introductory Macroeconomics and Quantitative Methods for Economics (statistics/mathematics). The concepts taught in these three modules will be used throughout an economics undergraduate degree. In their second, and particularly third, year at university, economics students will have a number of optional units. Students will be able to specialize in Development Economics, Managerial Economics, Labor Economics, and Monetary Economics and so on.

Numerous fields are waiting for economic graduates both in the public as well as the private sectors. In the government sector, one may try for Indian Economic Services, jobs in Reserve Bank of India, PSUs and other public sector banks. All these jobs have wonderful career options. These jobs give you social prestige along with financial stability. Private sector also offers jobs for economic graduates in the fields like private banks, MNCs, BPOs, KPOs, Business journals, and newspapers. A good opportunity is also waiting for economic students in higher education. One can pursue Ph.D. in economics to enter into the field of teaching in colleges and universities.

By the end of the degree you emerge as a student who can read as well as a law graduate, compute as well as an accountant, and analyze data as well as a statistician.
